High school students interested in Northern Illinois University are encouraged to begin the admissions process in the early fall of their senior year.
A high school student who does not meet the university's admissions criteria (or who meets the minimum requirements and has been denied admission), but who can demonstrate exceptional art talent through portfolio review, may qualify for sponsored admissions as an art major through the School of Art. Interested persons should contact the Assistant Director at (815) 753-7856 or lscurti@niu.edu in the school for further information.
The School of Art also welcomes visits by prospective students who wish to discuss the art program at Northern with a counselor and see the School of Art facilities. Interested students may arrange visits by contacting the Assistant Director at the number above.
The School of Art does not have special undergraduate admissions requirements except as noted below.
